Munich on Our Arrival Day

We had planned to get a train from the airport to the main station which was near our hotel.  However all trains were cancelled so we ended up getting a shuttle bus which worked out well. It was a beautiful, crisp, sunny day and the journey was pleasant.

When we got off the bus and walked through the station we noticed a high police presence which was apparently because of possible demos.

The hotel, the Eurostars Book, was a few minutes' walk from the station. We had hoped to drop off our bags as we were several hours before check in time but 2 rooms were ready so we were able to have a pitst op and then go out.

First stop was lunch and a beer at Das Bad, a converted bath house We then had a walk to the Transport Museum which was housed in a very tastefully designed building with three large halls containing cars, bikes, trains etc. etc.

By now the 02:30 start was taking its toll so we started the short walk back to the hotel for a nap.

I love it that they still use beer mats

No law in Germany restricting the size of heads on the beer!

Two peas in a pod?

James might like this - as per the mail coach in the National Railway Museum in York - which is free to visit and is was more extensive than this place. All rail-related as well

'Puffing Billy' replica, and the text with it acknowledges that engineers in the UK invented the railways as a gift to themselves and the world

The German version of Mac 'n Cheese - Käsespätzle

Apfelstrudel mit Vanillesoβe - Apple strudel with vanilla sauce

After a couple of hours' rest, we went to the hotel bar for a drink and snack. G and E had a delicious Strudel with vanilla sauce and Chris enjoyed Käsespätzle.

The early start had really caught up with Sarah and she settled for a coke and sleep. An early night was on the cards for all. We were exhausted!
